The Best Fire Pit Grills

Here are the best fire pit grill models that you should consider:

1. Bali Outdoors Wood Burning Fire Pit

Best Overall

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 1
  • Grate Circumference: 18.7 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 32 inches
  • Weight: 27lbs

Good Grill Design

I have to say that I really like how the cooking grate is designed on this wood burning fire pit. For one thing, it is great that you can rotate the grate in a 360 degree manner, allowing you to adjust it to a more comfortable position for you.

It is also wonderful that you can move the cooking grate closer to or farther away from the fire, depending on what temperature you want to cook your food at. This gives you a lot more control over the grilling temperature.

Good Grilling Experience

One of the things that I really liked about this wood burning fire pit and what makes it one of the best fire pit grills was that there was no learning curve at all. This is probably because the grill grate is so maneuverable.

I also really like the heat distribution across the grate. Not only did the grate heat up incredibly well, but it also heated up evenly. I was able to cook hot dogs and burgers on this fire pit grill without any issue at all.

Backyard Fire Pit

Sturdy Design

The construction of this wood burning fire pit is pretty great. It is made from heavy duty materials and this makes the grill feel really sturdy. This is especially important when using it as a grill. I also got the impression that this is a fire pit that is going to last you a while.

Now, that being said, you do have to look after this grill properly. I would suggest storing it away when it is not in use or cover it with a waterproof covering at least. Otherwise, it will begin to develop rust.

Portable

I also like that this fire pit grill is pretty lightweight. This makes it a lot easier to carry around and you can place it anywhere in your backyard or garden that you want. Also, since it isn’t a good idea to leave this fire pit grill out in the elements, it is easy to store.

Pros

  • Good grill design
  • Good grilling performance
  • Sturdy construction
  • Portable

Cons

  • Prone to rusting

2. AOXUN Fire Pit Grill

Best Budget Fire Pit Grill

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 1
  • Grate Circumference: 17 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 30 inches
  • Weight: 27lbs

Affordable

Are you not fully committed to the idea of fire pit grill in your backyard? Or, maybe you are on a budget. In any case, this is the perfect grill for you. It is very affordable and it works quite well so you still get quite a bit bang for your buck.

Now, I did notice some welding and quality control issues with my grill. So, you should be prepared to iron out a few minor issues with this grill for this price point.

Good Grate Design

I really like the way that the grate has been designed on this fire pit. For one thing, there is a larger surface area, ideal for cooking more food. At the same time, it can also be swiveled 360 degrees around for easy access. And, you can move the grate lower or higher depending on how quickly you want your food to cook.

Easy to Maintain

One of the cool features here is that they ere is a small pan attached directly under the fire pit. This catches any ash or debris that falls out. So, when you are done using the fire pit, it is just a matter of emptying out the pan rather than needing to seep up the surrounding area.

Safety Features

As you are probably aware, there are a lot of fire pit safety tips that you need to follow when using a fire pit. This is because of the tendency for fire and sparks to fly out of the fire pit and to land on the surrounding area. This can be quite dangerous, especially if you have a wooden deck.

Luckily, this fire pit is equipped with a spark screen that prevents accidents from occurring.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Good grate design
  • Easy to clean
  • Safety features

Cons

  • Some quality control issues

3. Yaheetech Fire Pit Grill

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 1
  • Grate Circumference: 18.5 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 32 inches
  • Weight: 24.76lbs

Large Cooking Area

If you have a larger family or simply want to be able to grill a greater amount of food at one time, then this is definitely the grill that you should consider for yourself. This is because you get a large cooking surface and you can either grill a larger batch or cook different foods at one time.

Good Grill Design

I also like the fact that the cooking grate can be maneuvered in different ways. You can move it in a 360 direction if you wish. This makes it a lot easier to access the food while you are grilling it or to simple take it on or off the grill.

It is also nice that you can move the grate up and down easily. This allows you to adjust how much exposure to the heat the food has. In turn, you can choose how slowly or quickly the food cooks.

Yaheetech 32'' Round Fire Pit on the Backyard

Great Heat Output

One of the reasons that this is one of the best fire pit grills on this list is because it has an excellent heat output. I found that it got really hot and this was great when you want to thoroughly meats or meat-based foods. With this fire pit grill you will have peace of mind knowing that your food is cooked all the way through.

Great Aesthetics

If you like fire pits with a bit more aesthetic appeal, then you will really like this option. This is because it has been beautifully designed, complete with a deer motif along the fire bowl.

My only complaint with this grill is that I found that the paint wore off quite quickly. So, if you are someone who is concerned with the appearance of the grill, you may need to repaint this fire pit grill more frequently.

Pros

  • Large cooking area
  • Good grill design
  • High heat output
  • Aesthetic appeal

Cons

  • Paint wears off quickly

4. PapaJet Fire Pit Grill

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 2
  • Grate Circumference: 15 + 18 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 36 inches
  • Weight: 37lbs

Double Grate Feature

One of the coolest things about this grill – and why it is on the best fire pit grills list – is that there are two grates here! The smaller grate is on top and the larger grate is on the bottom.

Now, one of the perks of this design is that you have more cooking space for yourself. This means that you can cook a lot more food at once. This comes in handy if you have a big family or tend to have lots of people over.

The other thing is that this setup also lets you cook different foods at different temperatures. Since the topmost cooking grate is farthest away from the fire, it works well for more delicate foods or ones that only need to be lightly toasted.

The lower grill grate is great for foods that need to be cooked at higher temperatures.

Good Grate Design

I also really like how versatile the cooking grates are. You can easily move them up or down, depending on how close you want them to the fire. You can also put a bit more distance between each grate if you are cooking thicker cuts of food.

You can also swivel the grates so that they are either facing the fire or you. Not only does this make it easier to load and unload the grill but once the grates have cooled down, they can also double as serving platters.

My only gripe with this grill is that it isn’t easy to assemble as not all the components fit together easily.

Great Heat Output

I was pleasantly surprised at how much heat this grill was capable of producing. It was able to heat the grates incredibly well and in turn, I was able to grill a wider variety of food. From burgers to sausages, there are plenty of foods that you can cook using this fire pit grill.

Versatile Design

I really like how versatile this fire pit grill is. You can use it as a grill, as a standalone fire pit, and even as a table. This is because it comes with a sturdy cover that allows you to cover up the fire pit are and use this as a piece of furniture.

Pros

  • Double grate feature
  • Adjustable grates
  • Great heat output
  • Versatile design

Cons

  • Tricky to assemble

5. Hykolity Outdoor Fire Pit Grill

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 1
  • Grate Circumference: 18.5 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 35 inches
  • Weight: 34lbs

Good Grill Design

The grill grate on this fire pit grill is designed really well. One thing, I do like that there is a larger space for you to cook on. It is also great that you can maneuver this grate quite a bit.

Not only can you swivel it in a 360 degree direction, but you can also move it up and down as well. As a result, this gives you greater control over the temperature as well as the rate at which the food is cooking.

Dual Cooking Options

Now, most of the fire pits on this list are wood burning fire pits. However, this model is different. This is because this cooking fire pit offers you two different options for fuel. You can choose to use wood and logs. Or, you can opt for charcoal instead.

This means not only do you get to choose which fuel you would like to cook with, you can also decide exactly which kind of flavor you want to infuse your food with as well!

Burning Round Black Fire Pit

Versatile Design

I really like the design of this model and it isn’t just because of the fire pit grill’s shape. I love that this fire pit can be used in so many different ways. You can use it as a fire pit, you can set it up as a grill, or you can place the cover provided by the manufacturer and use this grill as a table instead!

Stable Construction

I am happy to report that this fire pit grill is actually quite stable. So, you can easily grill your food on it without worrying about it wobbling during the process.

That being said, the metal was flimsier than what I was accepting so I am a bit concerned about how long this grill is going to last.

Pros

  • Good grill design
  • Dual cooking options
  • Versatile design
  • Stable construction

Cons

  • Questionable durability

6. Amopatio Fire Pit Grill

Specs

  • Number of Grates: 1
  • Grate Circumference: 15.7 inches
  • Firepit Circumference: 30 inches
  • Weight: 22lbs

Good Grill Design

I really like the grill design of this grate. This is because it can be swiveled all the way around. This is great for loading food onto and off the grill grate without burning yourself or dropping anything in the fire.

You also have the option of moving the cooking grate closer to the fire or further away. Not only does this help you to select a lower or higher temperature, but it also gives you control over the rate of cooking.

High Temperature

One of the things that I was quite surprised by with this fire pit grill was by hot it got. So, if you do want to cook more substantial food on this grate, you may actually be able to manage it. At any rate, you can certainly cook your food more quickly than with other fire pit grills.

Decent Price

If you don’t want to spend too much money on fire pits or fire pit grills, then this is certainly a model that I would advise you to get. It is an affordable option but the grilling performance is pretty great so you aren’t missing out.

That being said, the quality control isn’t great with this fire pit grill and this can make setting up this grill rather tricky.

Pros

  • Good grill design
  • High temperatures
  • Decent price

Cons

  • Some quality control issues

How to Choose a Fire Pit Grill?

Here are your top tips for choosing the right fire pit grill for you:

Know the Types of Fire Pit Grills

There are two main types of fire pits and fire pit grills for you to choose from – there are the wood burning fire pits and the gas fire pits.

The benefit with a gas fire pit is that they are easier to use as they require less setup and management. Also, it is easier to control the temperature of these fire pits.

While wood fire pits are a bit more work, they do have the advantage of flavor. Your food is going to taste a lot better when you use wood as fuel. Not to mention, with some fire pits, you can use certain woods like maple, hickory, to add specific flavors to the food.

Now, there is a sub category of wood and gas fire pits. These are smokeless fire pits. A smokeless fire pit has a special insert that reduces the amount of smoke produced by the flames. However, despite their name they still produce a little bit of smoke.

A smokeless fire pit is a great option if you are living in an apartment, have a smaller backyard, or are living very close to your neighbors. With this kind of fire pit grill, you don’t have to worry about setting off fire alarms or upsetting your neighbors with the smell or smoke.

Consider the Design

Now, it is a good idea to consider what kind of fire pit grill you want. Naturally, you want one that can function as a grill as well as a fire pit.

However, you may also be looking for a bit more versatility. This is true if you have a small space for your backyard and need to make the most of it.

In this case I would suggest checking out a fire pit that can also double as a table. These designs are equipped with a cover that close the fire pit area so that you can rest plates, cups, etc. here.

Check the Quality

The reality is that most fire pit grills aren’t exactly built to last or meant to be kept out in the elements for an extended period of time.

That being said, it is important to choose a fire pit that is made from the durable materials and that is constructed well. After all, it needs to be able to withstand the levels of heat that the flames will be producing.

Due to this, I do suggest choosing a cast iron grill or one that is made from equally durable materials to ensure that it won’t fall apart as you are using it.

Consider the Number of Grates

Of course, you aren’t going to be using the fire pit in lieu of an actual grill. Due to this, you aren’t going to need as much as with a traditional grill.

That being said, it is a good idea to consider how you will be using your fire pit grill and how many people you are planning on feeding.

If it is just going to be you and a couple of more people then just one grate will do. However, if you are planning on hosting a few more people from time to time, you may want to go with two grates.

Check the Maneuverability of the Grates

It doesn’t matter if you have one or two grates, make sure that you can lower and increase the height of the grate in relation to the fire. Keep in mind, this is the only way that you can really control the rate of cooking with this grill with ease.

So, being able to adjust the height can come in handy when determining if you want your food to cook faster or slower. This is especially important when cooking either delicate foods or thicker cuts of food.

It is also a good idea to see if you can swivel the grates in a 360 degree fashion. I found that this comes in handy when trying to pile food onto the grate or take it off. Doing this directly over the flames can be tricky and can cause food to fall into the fire.

Can a Fire Pit Be Used as a Grill?

Well, not all fire pits can be used as a grill but some of them can. The fire pit does need to produce enough heat to cook food. Also, you should be able to place a grate over the fire or there should be a setup where you can stack grates so that they sit above the flames or heat.

The Final Verdict

Well, there you have it – the best fire pit grill is the Bali Outdoors Wood Burning fire pit. It has an excellent grate design, offers up a great grilling performance, it is durable, and it is portable as well.

I would advise you to check out all the grills on this list as they each have their own features and perks. This way, you will know which specific fire pit grill is just right for you!
