The Best Natural Gas Grills

Here are the top natural gas grills for you to choose from:

1. Weber Spirit II E-310

Best Overall

Specs

  • Cooking Surface Area: 529 sq. inches
  • No. of Burners: 3
  • Heat Output: 30,000 BTUs
  • Dimensions: 27 x 52 x 44.5 inches

Good Cooking Space

I like that this natural gas grill has a good amount of cooking space on it. It is ideal for a family of three or four, maybe even more. In any case, you will be able to either cook a lot of food at once or cook different meats or veggies at the same time.

In addition to the primary cooking area, you also have a warming rack above the main space. This is a great way to ensure that your food doesn’t get cold or to lightly warm up your burger buns.

Versatile Cooking Area

One of the things that I like about this natural gas grill is that it is equipped with reversible grill grates. So, if you have more delicate foods like fish, then you can use the thin side of the porcelain enameled cast iron grates.

In case you want those gorgeous sear marks on your steak or thicker cuts of meat, then simply switch the grates over. It is as easy as that.

Great Temperature Control

There is a lot to be said for the temperature management system of this natural gas grill. I like how easy it is to set the temperature on this grill. And, when I tested it out, I found that the temperature inside the cooking chamber was precisely as set.

What’s more, I found very few variations or fluctuations during the cooking, ensuring that the food all cooks at an even rate.

Great Design

There are many design features to enjoy with this natural gas grill. First up, you have the folding side shelf. This is great for storing food that comes out of the grill or needs to go in. However, since it can be folded down, storing this cart is a breeze.

I also like that there are tool hooks on this natural gas grill, giving you somewhere to store your utensils while you are grilling.

My only complaint with this grill is that it isn’t the sturdiest option out there. So, you do have to be careful with how you move it around to prevent dents and other damage.

Pros

  • Sizable cooking area
  • Versatile cooking grates
  • Great temperature control
  • Great design

Cons

  • Not the most durable grill

Specs

  • Cooking Surface Area: 760 sq. inches
  • No. of Burners: 4
  • Heat Output: 48,000 BTUs
  • Dimensions: 26.5 x 66.25 x 50.25 inches

Large Cooking Area

This does offer the largest primary cooking area on the list. So, if you need to cook for a larger group, then this is the grill that you should go with. In addition to the main cooking area, you also have a sear side burner on the side of the grill. This is great for cooking foods at higher temperatures.

I also like the fact that there are four stainless steel burners to accommodate the larger cooking area. This means that the heat is distributed more evenly.

Excellent Temperature Control

In addition to even heat distribution, the temperature control with this natural gas grill is also really great. Once you set the temperature, you can have peace of mind knowing that the temperature isn’t going to budge. So, your food is going to cook nicely and evenly throughout.

Good Quality Grill

This natural gas grill is built really well, using all high quality materials. You get stainless steel tube burners as well as stainless steel grates. Not only does this guarantee a better grilling performance, but you also can ensure that your natural gas grill is going to last longer, making it a great investment.

The only real complaint that I have with this natural gas grill is that it is rather complicated and tedious to put together. It took me a while and I also had to get someone else to help me as well.

Plenty of Storage

It is nice to see that you have so much of storage space with a natural gas grill such as this. In addition to the enclosed space, the internal area also comes with a built-in light which makes it easier for you to store and take out items as needed.

Pros

  • Large cooking area
  • Good temperature management
  • Good build quality
  • Plenty of storage

Cons

  • Difficult to assemble

Specs

  • Cooking Surface Area: 830 sq. inches
  • No. of Burners: 4
  • Heat Output: 78,000 BTUs
  • Dimensions: 24.25 x 32 x 21.5 inches

Large Cooking Area

If you are looking for a spacious cooking area for your built in natural gas grill, then this is one that you should consider. Not only do you get a large primary cooking area but there is also an adjustable warming rack that works well for cooking low temperature food as well.

This grill is great for large families or anyone who likes to host cookouts frequently.

Great Heat Output

This natural gas grill boasts some of the best stainless steel burners on this list. As a result, this natural gas grill is capable of producing quite a bit of heat. If you are someone who likes to grill at higher temperatures or wants to sear steak and thick cuts of meat, you are going to enjoy this gas grill quite a bit.

The only thing I have to mention is that there are some flare ups at the back of the grill. So, you should be careful of cooking very fatty foods in this area.

Lion Premium Natural Gas Grill

Good Temperature Management

The other thing that I noticed about this natural gas grill was that it was great at keeping a consistent temperature. There were a few fluctuations as there were to be expected but the gas grill was great at course correcting so that the temperature evened out.

Durable Construction

There is no denying that this gas grill costs a pretty penny. However, I do have to say that it is worth it. For one thing, the company has only used high end materials like stainless steel cooking grates. Also, everything from the knobs to the cover is so well-constructed that it is bound to last you a long time.

Pros

  • Large cooking area
  • Good heat output
  • Good temperature management
  • Durable

Cons

  • Flare ups near back of grill

4. Dyna Glo Premier DGP483SSN

Specs

  • Cooking Surface Area: 673 sq. inches
  • No. of Burners: 4
  • Heat Output: 60,000 BTUs
  • Dimensions: 23.23 x 59.25 x 45.28 inches

Good Cooking Space

I like that there is a good amount of cooking space on this natural gas grill. It works well for anyone who has a medium sized or large family as well as anyone who likes to host regular cookouts.

In addition to the main burners, there is also an additional side burner that you can use. This can be used for anything from searing to cooking sauces.

Good Heat Output

The heat output from this natural gas grill is pretty great. It gets hot quickly, ensuring that you can grill and sear even thicker cuts of meat. I also like that the side burner can get pretty hot too. This is good for cooking a variety of foods on the side.

Good Heat Distribution

The heat distribution on this gas grill is pretty great too. This is largely due to the corresponding number of burners for this cooking area. So, each part of the cooking surface heats evenly, allowing you to cook foods at a steady and consistent rate.

Good Design

There are a lot of things to like about this design for this natural gas model. For one thing, I like that the hose for the natural gas line is quite long, giving you a bit more freedom about where to keep your grill.

I also like that there is a side table and that there is plenty of storage space under the grill.

The only thing that I am not thrilled about with this natural gas model is that it isn’t very sturdy. So, you do need to be careful about how you use it.

Pros

  • Good cooking area
  • Good heat output
  • Good heat distribution
  • Good design

Cons

  • Not very stable

5. Monument Grills Clearview Grill - with Conversion Kit

Specs

  • Cooking Surface Area: 743 sq. inches
  • No. of Burners: 4
  • Heat Output: 60,000 BTUs
  • Dimensions: 19 x 54 x 46 inches

Equipped with Conversion Kit

If you want the best of both worlds – want to use natural gas grills and propane grills interchangeably, then this is a good grill for you. It comes equipped with a conversion kit so you can turn it into a natural gas grill when needed.

This can be a good grill to have if you aren’t sure how long you will be living somewhere with a natural gas supply or if you want to make your grill more portable when needed.

My only concern with this grill is that the frame isn’t the most durable option. So, you should be careful with how you handle it.

Good Cooking Area

I like that there is a sizable cooking space here. This works for small and mid-sized families. But if you want to have a cookout, then you will pleased to learn that this grill can certainly accommodate those needs.

There is also a warming rack above the main area if you want to keep your food to the desired temperature before serving.

Good Temperature Management

The temperature management on this grill is also pretty impressive. Setting the temperature is incredibly easy and once you set it, it stays there. Now, there are a few fluctuations during the cooking process but the temperature always comes back to the desired level.

Good Heat Distribution

The grates are designed well and there is also a suitable number of burners for this cooking area. Due to this, the head distribution is quite impressive. I didn’t notice any hot spots or cold spots as I used the grill, so it is great for cooking food evenly.

Pros

  • Comes with conversion kit
  • Good cooking area
  • Good temperature management
  • Good heat distribution

Cons

  • Structure is a little flimsy

How to Choose the Right Natural Gas Grill for You?

Here are the top tips to follow when choosing from the best natural gas grills in the market:

Natural Gas Grills vs. Conversion Kits

The first decision that you need to make is regarding whether you should buy natural gas grills or if you should go with the conversion kits instead.

Let me explain:

A natural gas grill is one that can be hooked up to your natural gas supply line in your home and work immediately.

A gas grill that comes equipped with a conversion kit, though, is a propane grill that has a kit that allows you to connect the grill to a natural gas line.

The former works well if you already have a designated grill line from your natural gas supply line. A natural gas model also makes sense if you don’t want a portable grill and are happy with keeping your grill in one place.

A conversion kit works well if you would like to have access to a propane grill some of the time or if you would like to make your grill a bit more portable.

Built-In vs. Portable Grills

It isn’t as though most natural gas grills are super portable, but they can be moved around a bit. So, you will need to decide between the built in version and one that can be moved around.

Now, the built in natural gas grills are more expensive. Also, they only really make sense if you own your own house and have a designated grill spot.

Portable grills, on the other hand, work almost for every home.

If you do decide to go with built in natural gas grills, remember that measurements are key if you have an existing setup. Make sure that you choose a grill that can fit within that specific slot before you make your purchase.

Check the Quality

It doesn’t matter if you are new to grilling or are practically a professional, you need a natural gas model that is going to last you several years at least. This is especially true for the more expensive natural gas models.

I would recommend getting gas grills that are completely or largely made from stainless steel. This includes the frame, the cooking chamber, the cabinets, etc. Not only does this mean that the grill is more durable, it also cuts down on the risk of rusting.

When it comes to the grates, you have a few more options here.

Porcelain enameled cast iron grates are great for their non-stick properties. However, when they get scratched, they may not function as well. If you want durable cooking grates, stainless steel is the way to go. Just be mindful that these will cost more.

Check the Warranty

Along the lines of quality, you should also always check and compare the warranty for the grill that you want to buy. Some companies offer blanket warranties for the frame as well as the internal components. Others, provide separate warranties for the various parts.

Always go with the company that provides you with the best warranty. This is because it shows that the company stands behind its quality.

Also, make sure to read the terms and conditions of the warranty before signing the dotted line.

Consider the Cooking Area

Now, when it comes to the cooking space, you have to think about how many people you want to cook for at one time. If you live by yourself or have just one other partner, then it doesn’t make sense to get a too big grill.

On the other hand, if you have a bigger family or host frequent cookouts, then a larger grill makes sense.

I would also think about the kind of foods that you like to grill or smoke. For instance, if you are just sticking to hot dogs, burgers, steaks, and smaller cuts of meat, then a smaller surface area will be fine.

If you like to cook pork butts, numerous racks of ribs, or briskets, then you are going to need a lot more space to work with.

However, you shouldn’t make your decision based on the cooking area alone. You should also think about the overall size of the grill as well.

If you live in a smaller home or don’t have much storage space, then you shouldn’t invest in a grill that is too big either.

Check the Ratio of the Cooking Area to the Number of Burners

Now, you may need to think that you only need to pay attention to the burners when choosing natural gas grills. However, this isn’t the case.

Rather, you should take a look at how many burners there are in comparison to the cooking area.

If you have a smaller area, then one or two burners will be enough. If it is a mid-sized grill, then three or four burners is required. If you are getting a very large grill, then you need to look for five or six burners.

See, there should be enough burners to heat the cooking area evenly. This will reduce any cold spots throughout the surface area. So, always make sure that the ratio between these two elements works well.

This way, there is even heat distribution, and your food cooks so much better as a result.

Keep in mind that the number of burners also plays a role in creating indirect and direct heat zones when slow cooking food.

Person Grilling Hotdogs

Examine the Temperature Range

Some gas grills – as with charcoal grills – can get all the way up to 700F while others top out at around 500F. It is important to choose a natural gas grill that meets your requirements.

For instance, if you only cook delicate foods or are only planning on making burgers, hot dogs, ribs, etc., then your grill doesn’t need to get too hot.

On the other hand, if you are planning on searing steaks or cooking thick cuts of meat at higher temperatures then your grill will need to get pretty hot.

Consider Additional Features

Some natural gas models are pretty bare bones and this is fine if you are looking to keep the cost down or aren’t planning on using your grill too often.

However, a few additional features can really make your grilling experience easier and more efficient.

One thing to consider is side shelves. These are excellent for storing food before or after it goes on the grill. They can also function as prep tables.

You should also look for tool hooks where you can store your grilling tools while you are cooking. If you don’t mind the grill taking up more space, then consider an entire storage cabinet.

If you are someone who likes to prepare sauces or prep other foods while your meat is grilling, then you may want to look into a grill with a side burner. Or, a sear burner can help you to put the finishing touches on foods like steak.

You can also look for a grill with smart features. This will allow you to connect the grill to your smartphone and control certain activities while being away from the grill.

The Final Verdict

The Weber Spirit II E-310 is certainly the leader of the best natural gas grills. It has a large and versatile cooking surface, has excellent temperature control, and has a great design as well.

However, I do urge you to check out the other grills on this list. They each have their own unique features and advantages. Due to this, you can never tell which grill may have the right set of features for you. So, take a quick look at all of them!
